Join the Grumpy Gaboon and friends on a brand-new musical adventure with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra
The Great Grumpy Gaboon is a new musical adventure commissioned by the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (SCO), ideal for children aged four to eight and their grown-ups.
Tickets are on sale now and selling fast.
Saturday February 10, 12pm and 2.30pm – Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh and Sunday February 11, 2pm – City Halls, Glasgow. BSL interpretation from Paul Whittaker OBE will be available at all concerts.
Created by SCO Associate Composer, Jay Capperauld, with Author and Illustrator, Corrina Campbell, the story follows a REALLY grumpy Gaboon and his friends as they do everything possible to figure out just why the Gaboon is so unhappy.
“We heard a brilliant story from Cerys, our phenomenal bassoon player, who said that while giving music workshops for children, a particular young person continued to ask her about her Gaboon – meaning to say bassoon – and that sparked something fun and interesting for Corrina and I,” said Jay Capperauld.
“It quickly became apparent that the musician, combined with their instrument, was really what we wanted each character to be based on. In terms of writing I then knew that I would have to create imaginary characters that would embody both musician and instrument”.
The story delivers an important message of friendship and forgiveness, while the relaxed concert environment encourages fun and provides an opportunity for children to enjoy quality live orchestral music.
“The story of the Gaboon could actually be the story of any of the characters or musicians as it is simply a story that reflects the kindness and friendship they all show towards one another, especially in times of need”, said Corrina Campbell.
