David Bowie: Twitter pays tribute to late musician

The pop music world today paid heartfelt tribute to David Bowie's legacy after the 69-year-old died of liver cancer on Monday. World leaders, musicians, actors, writers and countless others were among those who shared their grief on Twitter.

@David_Cameron wrote: “I grew up listening to and watching the pop genius David Bowie. He was a master of re-invention, who kept getting it right. A huge loss.”

Scotland’s First Minister, @NicolaSturgeon, wrote: “What dreadful news about David Bowie. A hero for so much more than just one day. RIP.”

@Madonna said: “Talented. Unique. Genius. Game Changer. The Man who Fell to Earth. Your Spirit Lives on Forever! #rebelheart”

Rap polymath @kanyewest wrote: “David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime.”

@IggyPop, who worked with Bowie during his “Berlin” period, said: “MESSAGE FROM IGGY: ‘David’s friendship was the light of my life. I never met such a brilliant person. He was the best there is. - Iggy Pop’”

@nilerodgers, who also worked with Bowie, wrote: “#RIP @DavidBowieReal Your life changed my life. Love forever.”
