Students aim for BUSA glory

The footballing students of Edinburgh University face Birmingham University in the quarter-finals of the British Universities Championship at Peffermill tomorrow, kick-off 2pm, with their influential captain, Alasdair MacKinnon, available for selection.

MacKinnon, a PE student, is normally unavailable on Wednesdays because he is on placement at various schools but can play tomorrow because of the school holidays. "It is great news for us and a huge bonus because Alasdair is having a fantastic season," said Douglas Samuel, the Edinburgh head coach. "He has responded very well to being captain and he has taken his game to a new level."

Peder Beck-Friis and Jack Beacher could play up front in the absence of Hazeldine and Murray.
