Scottish Cup: City goalie raring to go for Cup clash

ANDREW STOBIE, Edinburgh City's 19-year-old goalkeeper currently on a season's long loan from SFL Second Division side East Fife, cannot wait for tomorrow's Scottish Cup second-round tie against South of Scotland League champions Threave Rovers at Meadowbank.

The Napier University student, who is in his third year studying Sports Science, is a former pupil of Boroughmuir High School and his previous clubs include Leith Athletic where he was an outfield player before being converted to a goalkeeper with North Merchiston Under-15s team.

"I was on loan last season with Haddington Athletic when Edinburgh City showed an interest in me so I decided to sign for at least a season with them," said Stobie. "I am thoroughly enjoying my time at City although we could have done to have won more league games."

Stobie is referring to the fact that City have drawn six of their eight games and lost the other two. "It would be brilliant to get through against Threave and get the opportunity to play against an SFL side and even possibly an SPL team," added Stobie.

"I'm pretty excited because this game will be one of the highlights of my career so far.

"I believe that we have a good chance of progressing because our defence, including Ruaraidh Scott and Ross Macnamara, is playing really well while in midfield Ian McFarland's work rate is second to none and he has a tremendous will to win."

City's joint manager, Gary Jardine, said: "Although we have drawn six of our eight games, if it had not been for Andrew then we could have lost a few of them."

Turning his attention to tomorrow, Jardine added: "We watched Threave recently; they are scoring goals and winning games which means that their confidence is high.

"Our first job therefore is to match their spirit, enthusiasm and confidence."

Jardine and his joint manager John Green have no injury concerns with all 21 of their squad available for selection.
