Philippe Clement hits out at 'stupid rule' as key Rangers player ruled out of Europa League crunch match

Rangers manager Philippe Clement called on the football authorities to initiate a rule change after the solitary moment that caused him to become irascible on the touchline during his side’s solid 2-1 victory over Sparta Prague. He will be suspended and it will be a chance for other players to prove themselves.” Clement cautioned his players against believing they have almost qualified, with victory over the Cypriots ensuring them a top two finish in Group C. But he was provided signs of their ability to apply the right mentality in how they dealt with the setback of Sparta pulling it back to 2-1 having been completely outplayed in going two-down inside 20 minutes. Joking that his senior five-man coterie could make the constantly cajoling 49-year-old something of a bystander. “In a lot of situations making the right decisions as a team, so that’s good, that’s less work for me,” the Ibrox manager said. “It was not everything perfect, but most of the things they were. So they didn’t become too nervous after 2-1. But don’t forget, we have experienced guys on the pitch, with Jack {Butland] , with Tav [James Tavernier], with Lunny [John Lundstram], with Connor [Goldson], with Ryan [Jack] also. They take the lead in those things and it’s really crucial for the coach to have players like that on the pitch who can be your right hand in those circumstances.”
