CELTIC are reported to have made an approach for Belgian under-21 defender Brandon Mechele.

The £3 million-rated central defender has been on blistering form this season for Belgian league leaders Club Brugge.

The 22-year-old will line up in Kiev tonight for his side’s second leg clash with Dnipro in the Europa League quarter finals.

Ronny Deila is said to be targeting two new centre halves, as he braces himself for the possibility of losing both Virgil Van Dijk - who is wanted by a string of European clubs - and Jason Denayer, who has hinted that he will return to parent club Man City in the summer.

Brugges manager Michel Preud’homme won’t allow his star to leave on the cheap and Celtic could be face a battle to negotiate a price that both clubs will be happy with.
