Princess casts a rider's eye over Haig statue in its new home

A MONUMENT to one of Scotland's best-known military leaders has been unveiled in its new home at Edinburgh Castle after standing on the esplanade for almost 90 years.

Edinburgh-born Field Marshall Sir Douglas Haig was honoured with a statue of him riding a horse in 1923 to celebrate his leadership during the First World War. However, it was relocated to make way for infrastructure for the new Tattoo stands. It was unveiled in its new home outside the National War Museum at the castle yesterday by the Princess Royal, who clambered up the statue's plinth for a closer look at the fully-restored monument.
