Previous targeting of Celtic manager Neil Lennon

For Neil Lennon, the 39-year-old Celtic manager, bottom, sectarian attacks have been a depressing feature throughout his football career, but none has been as chilling as this one.

The sending of a live explosive through the post is arguably the most dangerous episode in a professional life that has been blighted by controversy. As a Catholic playing for the mainly Protestant-supported Northern Ireland team, he had abuse from loyalists.

In 2002, he was withdrew from the Northern Ireland team for a game against Cyprus after receiving death threats from paramilitaries. In Glasgow, he was knocked unconscious in 2008 during an attack.
