Royal heads up
THE Mary Stuart Society (Letters, 28 February) may be unaware that there is a statue of the queen in Edinburgh.
The statue is not easily seen, being high up on the east face of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery at the junction of Queen Street and North St Andrew Street.
She is shown by the sculptor, William Birnie Rhind, on a pedestal with John Lesley, Bishop of Ross, on her right and William Maitland of Lethington on her left. This group was funded by a subscription raised by a committee of Edinburgh ladies and erected in 1896.
