Letter: Wit and wisdom

Unlike Roderick Anderson (Letters, 17 August) I find Hugh Reilly's articles on education witty, amusing and uncannily accurate, despite never having met Mr Reilly in my life.

They are certainly reflective of my own experience of secondary education in Scotland over the past 35 years, up to very recent retirement.

I would suggest one of the things wrong is that we don't have enough people in positions of authority who are prepared to tell it like it is with a smile.

Pomposity needs to be pricked and Mr Anderson's letter reads as if he is suffering from a sense of humour bypass. Bad day at the office perhaps?
