Airport justified
Indignants of Edinburgh should get this in perspective unless they are dropping people off, say, twice a day, every day.
The paltry sum of 1 will buy a third of a pint of beer, 0.83 litres of petrol or 20 minutes parking in Edinburgh. Plenty of truly substantial financial iniquities exist that aremore worthy of protest than this trivial little imposition.

Hide AdGordon Dewar's claim (your report, 15 July) that Turnhouse is no longer a small local airport and so needs a drop off charge is nonsense. Much larger airports give convenient passenger drop-off by using the full length of the airport buildings with signs for airline desks. Many have segregated lanes for buses and taxis.
The congestion problems are the result of actions by BAA. Any-one who wants to send them a message about the drop-off charge should not buy anything at airport shops from 1 October.
