Cycle path proposal aims to boost tourism

A NEW cycle route costing £1.6 million is set to be created to link coastal towns in the Lothians in a bid to boost tourism.

East Lothian Council has adopted a ten-year plan to develop a North Sea Cycle Route (NSCR), subject to funding for the project being available. The route would connect coastal towns in the county, and join a 6000-mile network of paths around the North Sea.

Councillor Barry Turner, the council's environment leader, said: "A coastal route would link the seaside communities and boost recreational and commuter cycling. The cycleway would be marketed on the NSCR website and could attract substantial visitors from the continent, where there is a greater tradition of cycling."
