Chilean mine survivor digs deep to finish Tokyo marathon

CHILEAN miner Edison Peña completed the Tokyo Marathon yesterday, shaving more than 30 minutes off the time he set in New York in his second such race since he was among the 33 men rescued in October.

Mr Pea, 35, had been training more than six miles a day and finished the race through the streets of central Tokyo in 5hr, 8min, 19sec. In the New York City Marathon on 7 November, he ran and walked on bad knees to finish in 5hr, 40min.
