Boyack in urgent talks over 'party flats'

Edinburgh Central Labour MSP Sarah Boyack was today meeting Housing Minister Alex Neil for urgent talks over "party flats".

The Scottish Government has promised to bring forward changes to antisocial behaviour laws to help tackle problems caused by flats let out for stag or hen weekends.

But Ms Boyack said she had some outstanding concerns and wanted to ensure that residents' worries are given top priority.

She said: "Residents are relieved that the Scottish Government is finally taking action to deal with party lets but there is concern at the minister's failure to address some outstanding concerns.

"So far there is little information about what form the changes to the law will take. The devil will be in the detail and residents are adamant that any change to the law must be as effective as possible. People with first-hand experience of the misery of living next to party flats have valuable insight they can offer this process, especially given the lack of formal public consultation on the proposals.

"It is vital that the minister addresses the concerns of residents to ensure any change to the law delivers real progress in dealing with irresponsible landlords."
