£27m quantum research centre to open in Glasgow

A QUANTUM technology research centre opens today at Glasgow Science Centre, bringing together academics attempting to commercialise radical new camera technology.

QuantIC, the Quantum Imaging Centre, brings together experts from the universities of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Heriot-Watt, Strathclyde, Bristol and Oxford to commercialise cameras built with quantum technology. More than 30 industry partners will help QuantIC’s imaging systems benefit the UK economy.

The centre will be funded by a £27 million award from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council.

Deputy first minister John Swinney said: “QuantIC is ­exactly the type of collaboration ­between academia and industry which confirms Scotland’s place as a world leader in scientific ­innovation.”
