My little piece of Scotland: Cullen

MY SPECIAL place in Scotland is Cullen, which is a small town in the north of Scotland, on the Moray Firth coast. In the summer we stay there for three weeks, and sometimes we go for Christmas and Easter too.

When I get to Cullen, I know we have arrived when I see the blue sea and the viaduct. My granny and granddad are always there to see us when we arrive. They have a comic and sweets waiting for us.

Cullen has three beaches. Two are harbour beaches where one of the best things I like is to jump off the wall or the pontoon. I have to make sure there's lots of water in the harbour before I jump.

There is a big long beach where there are rocks called the Three Kings. The largest rock is good to climb. I also go rock-pooling and there are big crabs and starfish to catch.

Most mornings we walk on the beach or near the railway line. After that we are allowed an ice-cream at the Cullen Ice-cream Shop. Lots of people visit Cullen to taste the yummy ice-creams.

One time we went to Fochabers to ride mountain bikes. I think the best trail there is the Soup Dragon. If you are good you can do a black run. Sometimes we also go to Spey Bay to see the dolphins or the ospreys. Last summer we also saw dolphins beside Cullen harbour.

There is a really good golf course in Cullen, where I play with my granddad and dad. We usually play nine holes, but if I am lucky I get to play all 18. There is a really tricky hole where you have to play over a big hill. Afterwards we have a really good soup that is called Cullen skink at the clubhouse.

I go and see my granny and granddad in Buckie and play on the flying fox in the play park there. There is an amazing shop in Buckie too. It has lots of cool toys with lots of Lego to choose.

This is why Cullen is my favourite little piece of Scotland.
